Stash-Buster #6 - A Rainbow of Dishcloths

Pattern found in my Etsy shop here:
.
It's all about putting the stash in a color order that makes sense. :-)
Who'da thunk it?
We love these because they have a built-in germ defense system...you see... they can be rinsed and wrung out and then the loop fits on the faucet to hang dry.

So once again it's all about the stash:
And it's all about
Stash Busters 2013

WARNING:
This is not the end of the dishcloth stashbusting...
Stay tuned.

  6. Now I've only ever knitted dishcloths before so these are a real treat. I would love to use up some of my stash doing these but most of it is acrylic or acrylic mix - would this work ( I usually knit them in cotton )? x

    1. Hi PJ,

I don't think acrylic would be good for dishcloths; however, it might work for a hot pad. Perhaps you could make two and then whip stitch or crochet them together for extra heat resistance. Mine are 100% cotton. I have a big acrylic stash too, but it will probably be used primarily for afghans.

    2. I know this is a couple yrs old but wanted to point out, the cotton is better for a hot pad than the acrylic would be... acrylic melts! The acrylic is great for making scrubbies, etc though, just not so good for wiping up wet messes as it doesn't absorb. Love this pattern and have been making them as big as they'll get with one ball of yarn. Multi-functional at that point as they can still be wash/dish cloths but also hot pads, placemats and hand towels. Thank you so much!

  9. Oh, so lovely! These colour blowouts are the best. Almost like Champagne :-)

How much yarn is needed for each cloth? How many yards pr 50 gr is it on the yarn you use?

    Have a lovely Sunday :o)

    1. Hi IH! Thank you so much for your comment. I used a 70.9 g skein, 120 yards and it made at least two. Hope this helps.

Good Sunday to you too, although it's close to Monday there now. ;-)

  13. And they look so pretty stacked up like that in chromatic order. :)

I added hanging loops to my last batch of scrubbies and love being able to hang the current one from the faucet handle.

There are many dishcloths in my stash's future... I should try adding some rings on a few.

  24. Hi Astri, I found you pattern via Inga (Arctic Strawberries). I am making my first dishcloth from you pattern, but can you tell me what is the finished size of yours? I fear I need to use a larger hook (I am using a 4mm) as my dishcloth is very small. Thanks, Jodie

    1. Hello. Thank you for visiting. Gosh I'm not really sure - I suppose I got about two dishcloths from one skein. I'm sorry I'm not good at keeping track.

  29. I have a huge yarn stash but unfortunately a lot of the labels are missing. Is there an easy way to tell if a yarn is cotton or acrylic?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I really do not know how to describe the difference very well. Cotton is generally not stretchy and is a little rougher that acrylic. Perhaps you could google it? I hope you can find out. :-)

    2. If you hold a match or lighter to the end of the yarn.... cotton will burn and acrylic will melt - it kinda beads up.

    1. The link to purchase the pattern is in the post. The dishcloths are germ resistant because they dry quicker since they can hang to air dry.
