Catastrophe in the Kitchen

I've been craving pound cake.
I think it's called pound cake because it calls for a POUND of butter!
And it puts on the pounds. :-)

In any case, I attempted to make one today,
but an "energy" out there apparently did not think I should have some pound cake:
 This is how it came out of the pan.
Could that mysterious sabotaging "energy" have been humidity?
Didn't even look good in the pan.
Do you think it stopped us from eating it?
No, it was delicious.
The "energy" did not get it's way.
You don't want the recipe, do you?

Have you ever had a delicious catastrophe?

  1. My baking catastrophe today was carrot cake. It ended up in the freezer. I have no idea what I will do with 23 carrot cake muffins that stuck to the paper liners and taste like "soap." Luckily I tried the 24th muffin before I made the cream cheese icing! Then I made an apple dump cake that everyone loved at our family Labor Day lunch. ;))))

  3. My theory is it doesn't matter what it looks like as long as it tastes good! I've had so many baking disasters I can't count them all.

  5. When that happens for me I just chunk the cake up, spoon it into sundae glasses, drizzle chocolate sauce over it and top with whip cream. Yum!

  8. Pound cake works better made in a loaf pan since it doesn't rise as much as other cakes. I have a horrible time with bundt pans, the only time things come out of them is with a pickaxe! Bet yours tasted great.

  9. I have to say your cake looks absolutely delicious Asrri! Buttery, crumbly and SO good! So I am not sure I would call this a catastrophe unless you were intending to serve it up to guests and wanted the presentation to be perfect. I find when I want to present something nicely it usually sticks or sinks or something and when it's just for home consumption it turns out picture perfect which can be annoying. Bundt pans can be tricky customers as several of your other commenters have also found. I don't think of using one without that non-stick baking spray to coat the inside with first. If you haven't tried this it's worth giving it a go - I'm sure it's sold in the US as well as the UK. In the meantime don't worry a bit, just enjoy your delicious cake! I'd happily indent for a slice (or two!) if I were at your table! E x

  10. Yes, I have had kitchen disasters and also eaten them and enjoyed them. I once made a cake and put it in the oven and when I turned round to do the washing up found I had measured the flour but not put it in the cake!!! Well I made the most delicious flourless honey and chocolate dessert! I have even made it since!
    Your pound cake actually looks lovely and fluffy and it tasted good too! I wonder if the 'sinking' condition could have been too much raising agent or even victim to a draught when cooking (opening the oven door)?

  14. Oh I've had some really tasty disasters. Cakes with sunken middles, unstable sponges. I call them rustic looking lol.

As long as it tastes good hat's all that matters Astri, I think my worst disaster was when I was living in Syria, my MIL was coming to visit so I wanted to impress, trouble was the blinkin cake was as flat as a pancake, anyway I tried to make it look good by filling it with jam and putting cream on the top. I served her a piece of the heavy looking cake...bless her she ate it all and then said..Linda I think you used salt instead of sugar! How did she eat it Ugh!! :)
