Crochet Lesson

It's a glorious day when one of your own would like to learn to crochet.
A day I had hoped for, for years, finally happened.
During a business trip to Dallas last month we were fortunate enough to visit #2, Jole Blon,
who lives in Keller, Texas with her lovely family.
She expressed an interest in the dishcloths I was working on.
She had dabbled with a few stitches many years before so I handed over some yarn and a hook, a little instruction and before you know it she was single, half-double and double crocheting her hands away.
So a package is in the mail for her.
Yarn and a hook.
A gift for her to continue practicing.
(Gotta' strike while the iron is hot.)

And dishcloth sampler with the three stitches she learned:
Cream is sc.
Brown is hdc.
And varigated is dc.
A little picot edge.
And she'll be ready to make some dishcloths to coordinate with her kitchen.
(Coordination is of utmost importance.)

Have you ever had a willing participant?
How did it go?

  1. How wonderful to pass on your gifts to your daughter :-) It's great when they show an interest; I was a happy mama when my daughter finally showed interest in crocheting a few months ago (after watching me for 2 years). I'm sure she'll love her care package.
    Blessings :-)

  2. What a lovely parcel to receive! No one in the family to pass crochet knowledge onto here! Though I have a friend who is trying and we have had a couple of sessions already! She crochets so tight that we can't get the hook through the yarn!! Have a lovely weekend!

    1. OH no - I crochet tight too - and constantly need to remind myself to loosen up. I'm either very tense or the crochet is therapy. :-)

  3. Heart-warming Astri! And yes, coordination is all because it's when people start realising that they can make things to suit them rather than the other way round that creative passions get born, even potential addictions! Happy Hooking to your daughter - she's got to have a head start with you as her Mom for inspiration! Hope she gets lots of hooky happiness from every stitch! E x

    1. That is so true E. Very well put. We'll see if she keeps it up. Unfortunately when I teach I approach it like work so sometimes that's not so fun. ;-)

  4. You are so sweet, she is going to be thrilled. There is nothing like a gift of yarn arriving in the mail.

    1. You are so right, Meredith. Especially when it's not expected...walking out to the mailbox, expecting bills and junk mail and then out of no where - yarn!!! Oh it is a delightful day when that happens. :-)

  6. Yes it is a lovely feeling Astri, My daughter wanted to learn how to knit a few years ago, I showed her how and she made a scarf, with a few dropped stitches and a wobbly edge (there's nothing worse you know haha) anyway she soon got bored with that and she asked me to show her how to crochet, she has made granny squares, a baby jacket, scarves and some hearts, but she has to be in the mood she certainly isn't a crochet-a-holic like her mum. Your daughter is going to be thrilled with her parcel. :)

    1. Aw yes the wobbly edge - I still get those sometimes and it is disheartening, but we carry on. ;-) Good for your daughter for trying so many things but it is good to bond with a fellow crochet-a-holic!
